PMV 5Y Moisture Analyzer

Technical specifications

  • Maximum capacity: 50 g
  • Readability: 0.1 mg
  • Moisture content readability: 0.0001%
  • Heating technology: microwave radiation emitter
  • Suitable for samples containing up to 100% moisture
  • Typical drying time: 1 to 10 minutes, depending on sample type and mass

The PMV 5Y Moisture Analyzer combines precision weighing with microwave drying to determine moisture content, dry mass and related parameters in samples with a high water content. Unlike conventional moisture analyzers that use IR, halogen or metal heating, the PMV 5Y applies microwave energy directly to the sample, significantly reducing drying time.

The instrument is intended for laboratories working with materials that are difficult or time-consuming to analyse using traditional heating methods. According to RADWAG, microwave drying is particularly suitable for products with very high moisture content while maintaining controlled drying conditions and repeatable measurement results.

Key Features and Benefits

Microwave drying technology

The PMV 5Y uses a microwave radiation emitter instead of a conventional heating element. During analysis, microwave energy is distributed across the sample placed on a glass fibre filter, causing moisture to evaporate while the integrated weighing system continuously records the resulting mass change.

This drying principle is designed for samples containing up to 100% moisture and enables considerably shorter analysis times than conventional thermal drying.

Short drying times

Depending on the sample type and sample mass, a typical measurement requires 1 to 10 minutes.

RADWAG states that comparable measurements performed with a traditional halogen moisture analyzer typically require 5 to 40 minutes, making microwave drying particularly suitable where shorter analysis times are required.

Controlled drying process

The instrument continuously monitors the drying process to help maintain stable operating conditions.

A built-in temperature sensor and power monitoring system control microwave energy during drying and help prevent the sample temperature from exceeding its boiling point. The selected microwave power remains visible throughout the entire measurement.

Multiple result formats

The PMV 5Y calculates and displays results in several formats:

  • Moisture content (%M)
  • Dry mass (%D)
  • Moisture-to-dry-mass ratio (%R)
  • Final sample mass (g)

This allows the same instrument to support different laboratory evaluation methods without additional calculations.

Flexible drying methods

The analyzer provides four drying profiles:

  • Standard
  • Mild
  • Fast
  • Step

The step profile enables drying in three programmable temperature stages, while the mild profile is intended for samples sensitive to rapid heating. The drying process can be completed using automatic, manual, time-defined or user-defined finish modes, allowing analytical methods to be adapted to different sample characteristics.

10″ touchscreen terminal

The PMV 5Y is equipped with the RADWAG ELLIPSIS terminal featuring a 10″ capacitive colour touchscreen.
The interface provides direct access to measurement functions, stored products, process graphs, instrument status information and measurement history. Multiple information windows can be displayed simultaneously to simplify operation.

Data storage and connectivity

The instrument includes 16 GB of internal memory for storing reports, measurement results and graphical process records. Communication interfaces include USB, Ethernet, RS232 and Wi-Fi®, allowing transfer of reports and measurement data to external devices. The Hotspot function enables direct communication with mobile devices without requiring an external wireless network.

User identification and documentation

The PMV 5Y supports user authentication using password, RFID card, fingerprint recognition or facial recognition.

Measurement documentation includes electronic reports together with time and statistical graphs, supporting traceability of completed analyses.
